Through graphic advocacy and tailored branding, Grain built a suite of materials to help raise funding and resident awareness for sustainability improvements across NYCHA campuses. Color-coded cards and pamphlets were created to explain the benefits of these 10 improvement programs, which provided built improvements such as green infrastructure and solar energy.
With 2,500 acres of city land and a large resident population, NYCHA has the potential to be a key player in New York City’s “green” agenda. Unlocking funding for improvements is a key part of this effort, and by creating eye-catching materials that highlight these opportunities, the team was able to build momentum towards that goal. Program ‘baseball cards’ gave initial information and were easy giveaways, with detailed booklets being delivered to people who showed particular interest in a certain program. While initially developed with funders in mind, these materials were adapted to complement resident outreach. With the goal of building stewardship and an understanding of large-scale efforts, this multifaceted strategy reached each audience with a
carefully tailored approach.
