Ready Red Hook:
A Community Recovery Plan
Developed with and for the community, Ready Red Hook is an emergency action plan that enables residents to receive food, shelter, medical and other support services within the critical 72 hours immediately prior to and after a natural disaster. This critical toolkit protects vulnerable populations and empowers the community to move assuredly through the next natural disaster.
After Hurricane Sandy devastated the neighborhood in 2012, residents were determined to be better prepared for the next “super storm.” Red Hook Coalition, a collective of community-based organizations, engaged Grain to develop a Long-Term Community Recovery Plan that would more effectively mobilize people and highlight resources in the wake of future natural disasters. Grain analyzed the local recovery projects already underway, both to streamline efforts and open lines of communication within the neighborhood. Co-created through a series of collaborative meetings and community forums, Ready Red Hook provides residents a single guide for expedited action and recovery in future emergencies.
