Bronx Visioning: Southern Boulevard
Community engagement, planning, and urban design efforts in the South Bronx are shaped by a range of strategies designed to reach both individual and organizational stakeholders. Insights gathered through tabling sessions, interviews, and public meetings—such as affordable housing, improved streetscapes, job creation, and small business development—help inform urban planning and design outcomes that prioritize community needs.
The area surrounding the Bronx River is home to a vibrant tapestry of communities and built spaces, each playing an important role in creating the fabric of the neighborhood. Grain’s work occupies the intersection of people and place – uncovering important community narratives and finding ways for the neighborhood to evolve with local stakeholders.
With a diverse group of communities, involving advocates and local community organizations from the start was a critical component for project success. Conversations and surveys from these sessions have created a deep understanding of the area, and input from a steering committee of local experts gives even more context.
