Waste Yard Redesign

Re-envisioning NYCHA recycling and waste collection facilities at 16 different developments. These upgraded facilities aim to improve the quality of life for residents while increasing the ability of staff to manage and store trash and recycling for collection. They will improve the overall cleanliness of NYCHA developments, reduce rodents and pests, and limit the waste sent to landfills. Leveraging the capital investments being made on these yard improvements, underutilized spaces around the yards have been identified to transform them into public open spaces that strengthen the urban design connections and provide resident amenities through an individualized and customized participatory design process.

Resident-led input shaped urban features at each development and include green spaces, group seating, dog parks, running tracks, charging stations etc. The yard fence is another palette that has been customized at each site to create bright campus beacons that brand and showcase the unique strengths of each of these communities.
