PROJECT AREA: 45 acre
PROJECT SCOPE: cmaster plan, design guidelines
PROJECT STATUS: completed 2008
CLIENT: Columbus Downtown Development Corporation

2008

The development of this 23-block area of Downtown Columbus as a vibrant residential neighborhood will fulfill Mayor Michael Coleman’s vision for the transformation of a derelict waterfront area long dominated by parking lots, complementing a larger set of initiatives and developments that are revitalizing the downtown area of Ohio’s capital city.

RiverSouth is being planned as an entirely new neighborhood, characterized by a variety of housing, a mix of historic buildings and new architecture, redesigned streetscapes and open spaces, and strong links to the waterfront and surrounding neighborhoods. It will provide approximately 1,200 residential units as well as retail and cultural amenities. The master plan is being coordinated with other major projects in the immediate area including the Scioto Mile riverfront park, the reconstruction of the I-70/71 freeway, and a new Franklin County Courthouse.

The master plan is accompanied by a design guidelines document that presents various elements of the design concepts in a regulatory outline format. This format was adopted in order to provide additional assistance and guidance to all agencies, governing bodies, and other entities involved with overseeing the implementation of the RiverSouth Master Plan.
