PROJECT AREA: Red Hook Community
PROJECT SCOPE: Community Engagement
PROJECT STATUS: Completed
CLIENT: NYC Department of Design and Construction and the Mayors Office for Resiliency

2020

Red Hook Coastal Resiliency (RHCR) is a continuation of Red Hook IFPS (Integrated Flood Protection System).

The project advanced the feasibility concepts to a constructible design that would protect the Red Hook community in the face of future extreme weather and a changing climate. Led by The Mayor’s Office of Recovery and Resiliency and the NYC Department of Design and Construction, Grain was part of the interdisciplinary consulting team, taking the lead on community engagement.

Our engagement work on both of these projects included one-on-one meetings with community leaders and partnerships with local schools and arts organizations, as well as large-format community forums.  We designed and distributed a suite of online and printed materials to help “translate” the complex technical and scientific data to a lay audience to ensure that everyone could participate actively in the conversation.
